Description
Menthol is an organic compound, which is obtained from peppermint or other mint oils. t is obtained from steam distillation and used in diverse industries. It is a waxy, white coloured , crystalline substance, which is solid at room temperature and melts above.
History
here is evidence that menthol has been known in Japan for more than 2000 years, but in the West it was not isolated until 1771, by Hieronymus David Gaubius. Early characterizations were done by Oppenheim, Beckett, Moriya, and Atkinson.

Uses
