Broom / Genet Absolute Oil...

Spartium junceum, known as Spanish broom or weaver's broom, is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae, native to the Mediterranean in southern Europe, southwest Asia and northwest Africa, where it is found in sunny sites, usually on dry, sandy soils.

The Latin specific epithet junceum means "rush-like", referring to the shoots, which show a passing resemblance to those of the distantly related, rush genus juncos.

Spartium junceum has been widely introduced into other areas, and is regarded as a noxious invasive species in places with a Mediterranean climate such as California and Oregon, Hawaii, central Chile, southeastern Australia, the Western Cape in South Africa and the Canary Islands and Azores. It was first introduced to California as an ornamental plant.

Broom / Genet Absolute Oil are derived from the flowers of broom shrub. Broom shrubs belong to the group of evergreen, semi-evergreen, and deciduous shrubs of the legume family Fabaceae. It has thick, slender green stems and very small leaves, which are adaptations to dry growing climatic conditions. The biggest species of broom is Mount Etna broom which can make a small tree up to the height of 10 m tall. It is used as a food source by the larvae of some species.Genet/Broom, absolute, Italy, Eden Botanicals - Muddy grayish-brown, opaque, very thick, cannot pour it without adding alcohol to dissolve it. Another weird aroma, like tuberose, smells nothing like one would expect a flower to smell. First lime like topknot, then hay like smell, slightly sour tobacco, followed a strong aroma of dried leaves. Genet/Broom: woody, nutty, aromatic, dry, fermented fruit.

Genet Absolute also known as Spanish Broom is a small decorative shrub that from late spring displays small flowers reminiscent visually of sweet pea. The concrete is produced from the fresh flowers and the absolute oil is obtained by solvent extracting the concrete. This absolute oil is golden brown in color and of a waxy consistency that becomes pourable with gentle warmth.

The aroma is sweet, floral fresh with a delicate fruit note comparable to Orange Blossom Absolute entwined with warm herbaceous hay notes and all of good tenacity. Trace amounts of genet will soften, round and intensify floral, fruit and herbal compositions. The world output of this absolute is less than 200 kilos per year, largely because the bushy shrub consists of lots of thick wood, much of it dead and this makes collecting the flowers very challenging and labor intensive.
