Tolu Balsam Absolute Extra Oil is derived from the resin secretion of Myroxylon balsa mum tree by alcohol extraction method. The word "Tolu" was taken from a tribe of people recognized by “Tolues” once lived in Columbia. During ancient times, Native Americans turn the bark of the balsam into a powder which was used as a deodorant. Even Europeans use tolu balsam for treating ringworm, wounds, and diaper rash. Absolute of Tolu Balsam works amazingly well in the treatment of several skin ailments that includes acne, blemishes, cracked skin and pimples. It also equally works in the treatment of upset stomach, headaches and cold.

Tolu balsam is mainly found in South America especially in Peru, Venezuela and highlands of Columbia. This tree is related to tree variant of Peru balsam and its resins is used in preparation of cough syrups.  It comprises the vital constituents of Benzyl- & cinnamyl esters of benzoic acid and cinnamic acid and soluble in alcohol but insoluble in water.

Tolu Balsam Absolute is a true balsam, which is extracted pathologically. The tree is usually beaten around the trunk, V-shaped incisions are made into the trunk and the resulting resin (produced to heal the tree) is collected. There is a steam distilled product that is an essential oil and it is not as rich in scent. The dry distillation produces a product that solidifies when cooled and it has a much richer scent. Tolu Balsam is an essential oil, but it is solid at room temperature. To use this oil, it must be thinned or heated so that it becomes liquid. Grit man makes an absolute by dissolving the resin in alcohol.

The crude balsam is collected from the trees. It appears first in liquid form, then hardens and solidifies into an orange brown brittle mass. An essential oil is obtained from the crude by steam distillation or dry distillation.

A native to South American Tolu balsam is closely related to tree yielding Peru balsam. With main constituents being benzyl- and Cinnamyl esters of benzoic acid and Cinnamic acid, it is used as fixative agent in perfumes. Owing to its medicinal properties it also used in cough syrups and as an ingredient of compound Benzoin Tincture.

Benefit & Uses:Used primarily as fixatives in citrus-colognes, oriental perfumes, and floral bases. Tolu is among the most interesting modifiers for 'exotic' floral fragrances.

A native to Central America, the leaves and fruits of this slender & straight tree have been used by the indigenous tribes of Mexico and Central America. The sap, or balsam, comes mainly from the large trees which grow along the coast of El Salvador. The sap is extracted by tapping, similar to the tapping of rubber trees. A tree must be at least 20 years old before it can be tapped.

The resin has a fragrance of cinnamon when freshly harvested; the aged resin has the fragrance of vanilla and is highly prized. Tolu has a rich, sweet, balsamic, vanilla like scent.

This material gives excellent effects in hyacinth, tuberose, gardenia, honeysuckle, stephanotis and other sweet floral fragrances...it is, in general, an interesting item for use in all types of fantasy perfumes, 'tabac', 'leather', aldehydic perfume, etc.
