The Agarwood that we carry is plantation-grown in Trat province, located in the east of Thailand, which was originally one of the richest areas of naturally occurring agarwood trees. While thereare still wild agarwood trees to be found in inaccessible forest regions, they are extremely rare and very difficult to obtain. By purchasing agarwood products from cultivated trees, we are not doing damage to the last remaining wild agarwood trees, nor to the forests in which the precious agarwood trees grow.

The odour of agarwood is complex and pleasing, with few or no similar natural analogues. As a result, agarwood and its essential oil gained great cultural, religious, medicinal and cosmetic significance around the world for its distinctive fragrance, used for incense, perfumes and aromatherapy. Since the strong aromatic fragrance of agarwood is appealing to the senses and lift the mood like no other.It is wildly used in the treatment of mental depression. A perfumer's guilty pleasure, oud oil, also known as agarwood essential oil, is without a doubt the most refined olfactory merchandise available anywhere.

However, producing high-end oud today is a thing of the past. We no longer have access to the grade of agarwood previously used in its production. That and you could never supply such a precious material to the mass-market without manipulating the process by introducing chemical additives of all sorts. Consequently, the market for essential oud oil has become tainted by the spread of such synthetic products being sold as 'agarwood/oud oil’; while in fact they hardly qualify.

Agarwood, also known as oud, oodh and aloeswood, is a dark resin that forms in the heartwood of the Aquilaria tree, after it becomes infected with a certain mold. As the infection progresses, the tree creates this dark aromatic resin to help combat the infection. This infected wood is prized for its unique and distinctive fragrance.

Agarwood has been used in nearly every religious tradition around the world and revered for thousands of years by many cultures as the most treasured incense ingredient. Buddhists burn agarwood incense for the transmutation of ignorance and to promote serenity, the monks of Tibet for a calm body, mind and spirit, while the Sufis and Japanese Shaman use agarwood oil in their esoteric ceremonies. It has also been scientifically proven to promote positivity, creativity and motivation.

This wood is then cut into chips and fermented in pure water for between 10 and 20 days, before it's separated into its different grades and steam distilled. These grades can be affected by the quality of the wood, the age of the tree, the level of infection, how the tree was grown and where the tree is from. All of our agarwood oil is harvested from mature trees and meticulously distilled, traditionally, on-site, by experts.
