Indian Spice Oils ...

Indian spice Essential Oils are of complex composition and contain aldehydes, alcohols, esters, phenol in varying proportions. Since these specialty oils have a very strong aroma and are highly volatile, they are used as a raw material in flavoring and perfumes. This Oil has traditionally been used for therapeutic value. These Oils have that the properties of the spice or herb they are derived from. These aromatic and volatile oils are extracted from the leaves, stems, and flowers of a plant.

Ajowan Oil

Ajowan Essential Oil seeds resemble caraway and taste like pepper with anise and thyme. They can be mislabeled as lovage or celery seed. Ajowan is not grown in the United States. There does seem to be an American cousin naturalized after its arrival from Asia: this plant is called Bishop's Weed, Bishop's Lace or Bishop's Flower. This plant is not to be confused with Gout's Weed or Bishop's Weed which has a rich herbal history.

The Bishop's Weed noted here is a wild flower growing in the southern United States. Bishop's Weed is the South's answer to Queen Ann's Lace which likes cooler temperatures. They are very similar in appearance. There is no herbal reference to Bishop's Weed as there is for Queen Ann's Lace. Science is investigating Bishop's Weed to see if it might fight cancer.

Aniseed Oil

Aniseed oil was revered by ancient civilizations, especially by the Romans, Egyptians and Greeks. The Romans used it in a spicy cake know as 'mustache’s', the Egyptians used it in bread, while the Greeks used it for its calming influence on the digestive tract. Aniseed is used in liqueurs and cordials, toothpastes and mouthwashes. In India it is used as a breath sweetener and in Turkey, a popular alcoholic drink called 'raki ' is made from the seeds. The oil is of medium viscosity and will solidify at low temperatures and it may need to be hand-warmed before use.

Bay Leaf Oil

Bay leaves are a fixture in the cooking of many European cuisines (particularly those of the Mediterranean), as well as in the Americas. They are used in soups, stews, meat, seafood and vegetable dishes. The leaves also flavor many classic French dishes. The leaves are most often used whole and removed before serving (they can be abrasive in the digestive tract). Thai cuisine employs bay leaf in a few Arab-influenced dishes. In Indian and Pakistani cuisine, bay laurel leaves are sometimes used in place of Indian bay leaf although they have a different flavor.

They are most often used in rice dishes like biryani and as an ingredient in garam masala. Bay (laurel) leaves are frequently packaged as tejpatta (the Hindi term for Indian bay leaf), creating confusion between the two herbs.If eaten whole, bay leaves are pungent and have a sharp, bitter taste. As with many spices and flavorings, the fragrance of the bay leaf is more noticeable than its taste.

Black pepper essential oil

Black pepper oil is extracted from the plant Piper nigrum. The oil is made from the unripe red fruit of the plant, while white pepper for household use is made from the same fruit, but the berry is picked when fully ripe and the outside layer is removed before drying.

Calamus Oil

Calamus is a medicinal herb which grows in water, near streams, small pounds or lakes, etc. Calamus can be found throughout the Northern hemisphere, from ancient lands of China or warm regions of India to the US and Canada. Health benefits of calamus tea and calamus are mentioned in ancient Chinese manuscripts, and ancient Chinese practitioners were well aware about the therapeutic properties and healing powers of this interesting natural remedy.

Capsicum

Capsicum fruits and peppers can be eaten raw or cooked. Those used in cooking are generally varieties. They are suitable for stuffing with fillings such as cheese, meat or rice.They are also frequently used both chopped and raw in salads, or cooked in stir-fries or other mixed dishes. They can be sliced into strips and fried, roasted whole or in pieces, or chopped and incorporated into salsas or other sauces, of which they are often a main ingredient.

Capsicum is a species are native to the Americas where they have been cultivated for thousands of years. In modern times, it is cultivated worldwide, and has become a key element in many regional cuisines. In addition to use as spices and food vegetables, capsicum has also found use in medicines.

One of the most wonderful herb medicines can be put in an open wound, either in a fresh wound or an old ulcer. It is effective as a poultice for sores and wounds or taken internally for rheumatism, inflammation, fevers and pleurisy. It is a stimulant when taken internally as well as being an antispasmodic. Good for kidneys, spleen, pancreas, and lockjaw.

Caraway

Caraway has been called by many names in different regions, with names deriving from the Latin cumin, the Greek karon (again, cumin), which was adapted into Latin as carum (now meaning caraway), and the Sanskrit karav. Caraway fruit oil is also used as a fragrance component in soaps, lotions, and

Caraway also has a long tradition of medical uses, primarily for stomach complaints. Emerging and ongoing research from Arabic regional studies suggest Carum Carve use as an endocrine function support agent, specifically related to thyroid disorders and auto immune disease.

Cardamoms

Cardamom has a strong, unique taste, with an intensely aromatic, resinous fragrance. Black cardamom has a distinctly Smokey, though not bitter, aroma, with a coolness some consider similar to mint.

Green cardamom is one of the most expensive spices by weight, but little is needed to impart the flavor. It is best stored in pod form because once the seeds are exposed or ground, they quickly lose their flavor. However, high-quality ground cardamom seed is often more readily (and cheaply) available and is an acceptable substitute. Grinding the pods and seeds together lowers both the quality and the price.

For recipes requiring whole cardamom pods, a generally accepted equivalent is 10 pods equals 1½ teaspoons cardamom are used as flavorings in both food and drink, as cooking spices and as a medicine. it is also smoked some times of genus of leguminous plants (herbs, shrubs, or trees) of many species, most of which have purgative qualities. The leaves of several species furnish the senna used in medicine. It is imported as cassia, but commonly sold as cinnamon, from which it differs more or less in strength and flavor, and the amount of outer bark attached.

 

Origin of cassia oil

It is native to China and is also known as cassia bark or Chinese cinnamon. This slender, evergreen tree grows up to 20 meters (65 feet) high, with thick, leathery leaves and small white flowers. The flowers are followed by single-seeded berries the size of small olives. Cassia bark is widely used to flavor curries, in baked foods, candies and soft drinks. Cassia oil is extracted from the leaves, bark, twigs and stalks by steam distillation. Cassia oil should not be used on the skin as it is a dermal irritant, dermal sensitizer and is a mucus membrane irritant. It must also be avoided in pregnancy.

Celery Seed Oil

Celery Seed essential oil is one of the best oils for natural liver cleansing. Natural remedies for gout include celery seed because of its excellent ability to reduce uric acid. It is also used in natural remedies for rheumatoid arthritis along with wintergreen, peppermint and Palo Santo.
